Beyond this, the contrast between the paintings by Renoir and Picasso probably is the basis of the expressive meaning of the painting. The Renoir depicts human happiness and love, the Picasso loneliness and suffering. Surrounding the island of color created by the art books, is darkness…a black table and black background. But beauty reigns here."
