Floral still-lifes, roses with moons, pastels and caseins. "This pastel drawing and casein painting of roses with stars and moons are part of a series of flowers and still-lifes with night skies used as backgrounds. The moons and stars are part of my continuing search for deeper meaning in life and art, in this instance, placing the roses in the less usual context of night as opposed to day, or in a vase on a table in the house. Why did I paint three moons in the casein painting? It’s too simplistic to say that three moons are three times more spiritual or ‘heavenly’ than one moon, but that is something of the idea I was working with. Also, on a purely aesthetic or design level, I wanted to fill out, and balance, all of the space in the casein. However, it is interesting to note that I didn’t feel the need of doing this with the pastel."
