Pastels, landscapes, richly colored autumn foliage. "In both pastels, the beauty of nature, the color and significance of the autumnal season are my main interests. Cedars are the dominant tree in this part of New York because of their dark color. When winter arrives, and all other green is gone from the beautiful, golden but starker landscape, the cedars become nearly black by contrast. With the arrival of autumn, the cedars are on the verge of asserting themselves. I was also interested in the 'squareness' of the central shape in 'Red Trees.'"
