Don Gray paintings

Paintings of black dogs in casein medium. "Visual beauty and poetic richness are major elements in this painting, but, like all paintings in the 'Berry' series, it is a remembrance of her shortly after her death. The moon is present, as in many of my works. I was attracted to bread, its form and probably as 'the staff of life.' When Berry died, I was painting still-lifes that were very organized, balanced and centered. This is evident with the bread and pepper in the middle, and an apple and onion on each side. I thought the pattern of the foreground cloth was extremely beautiful and expressive…and centered the pattern, which supports a central axis to the painting."
